DESCRIPTION
Pilot Sport Cup ZP (Streetable Track & Competition)
The Pilot Sport Cup ZP (Zero Pressure) is Michelin’s Streetable Track & Competition run-flat tire developed for Corvette Z06 and ZR1 drivers who participate in racetrack lapping days and car club competition events. Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires are designed to allow weekend racers to drive to, from and at the track on the same tires - tires tuned to match their Corvette’s high-performance drivetrain and chassis. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup ZP takes street-to-track driving to a new level by providing great grip, progressive feedback and precision control along with extended mobility in the event a puncture allows complete air pressure loss.
Pilot Sport Cup ZP radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. And like all Streetable Track & Competition tires, Pilot Sport Cup ZP radials are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It’s also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 32 degrees F.
The Pilot Sport Cup ZP benefits from several generations of Michelin run-flat technology, which is especially efficient in enhancing race-tire performance characteristics. Michelin has turned the technology that enables a tire to run for a limited period without air pressure into an asset on the racetrack.
A new racing-compound arrangement raises the limit of Streetable Track & Competition tires by delivering track-ready grip without abandoning treadwear. The tread compound is molded into an asymmetric design featuring a massive outboard shoulder rib to increase steering response and cornering stability while circumferential grooves and independent tread blocks on the inboard portion of the tread design help maintain wet traction on damp roads.
The Pilot Sport Cup ZP's internal structure includes two full-width, steel belts reinforced with Michelin's Filament At Zero (FAZ) technology to stiffen the tread area to resist contact area distortion during aggressive acceleration, cornering, braking and high-speed use. Asymmetric zero pressure sidewall inserts optimize tire rigidity in the same manner as racing slicks to combine lateral grip and peak cornering performance with precise control and steering. A supple outboard sidewall provides a large and reflexive variable contact patch similar to the racing slicks used on the Corvette Racing C6.R in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the inboard sidewall provides the extra-tuned rigidity to support cornering, braking and acceleration forces.
Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires are molded with 6/32" of tread depth in their grooves and are left unshaved for use on damp tracks. While Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires do not require shaving for dry track use, their lap time performance will improve slightly if shaved to approximately 4/32" deep tread to begin competitive road racing/track use in dry conditions, however this will sacrifice significant treadlife.
NOTE: Pilot Sport Cup ZP tires will be available as Original Equipment beginning with 2012 Corvette models as part of Chevrolet's ZO7 package for the ZO6 and PDE for the ZR1.
NOTE: Pilot Sport Cup ZP run-flat tires cannot be mixed with non-run-flat Pilot Sport Cup, Pilot Sport Cup + (Plus) or Pilot Sport Cup N-Spec tires.
