The long-awaited, highly-speculated about, and tantalizingly leaked C6 ZR1 was finally released to the excited Corvette public in 2009. The ZR1 sports a supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8 that produces 620 HP. With so few available, and with the ZR1 being such a fabulous car already, performance mods will probably be slow to enter the market - but we will have them as soon as they are available! C6 ZR1 Corvette Overview
Now, in 2009, the C6 ZR-1 is back to regain its title as “King of the Hill.” Harkening back to the era of the 1990 ZR-1, which floored executives from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Jaguar, and other European manufacturers at the International Automobile Show in spring of 1989, the C6 ZR-1 has taken the automotive world by storm.
The supercharged 6.2L LS9 engine is a work of engineering genius, pushing an almost frightening 620HP out of this small block V8. And it’s no slouch at the track, either, delivering exceptional handling along with that power. Code named “Blue Devil” during development, the C6 ZR-1 reaches a top speed of 205 MPH, and its power-to-weight ratio is better than the Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari 599, and even the Lamborghini LP640.
The ZR-1 is the fastest production Corvette, ever. Period.
To put these ponies to the ground, the ZR-1 is built on the same aluminum-based chassis as the Z06 and features the same type of suspension, with independent upper and lower control arms. The suspensions' tuning, however, differs in order to accommodate the markedly wider tires – and also to allow the car to deliver a surprisingly comfortable ride from a supercar that still produces cornering forces in excess of 1g.
