C6 Z06 Corvette Overview

Unlike its predecessor, the C5Z06, the C6Z06 featured an engine with a design that was not based on the base model C6 Corvette’s LS2. In 2006, the C6 Z06 introduced the public to the all-new LS7, a 427 ci displacement V8 small block that offered the same displacement as the famed big block engines of the 66-69 Corvette.

On the outside, the C6 Z06 sported distinctive body styling unlike the coupe and convertible. It also included carbon fiber body elements and restyled fenders, front fascia, and a hood with a scoop. Unique to the C6 Z06 was an aluminum-frame architecture, magnesium-supported fixed roof panel and magnesium engine cradle.

As a result of the technological advancements of the LS7 engine, including larger bore diameter, pressed-in steel cylinder liners in an aluminum block, titanium connecting rods and intake valves, a dry-sump oiling system, and an 11:1 compression ratio, in its debut year the C6 Z06 pulled down 3.7 second 0-60 MPH times.

Also in its introductory year, a red, white and blue Z06 was honored as the Indy 500 pace car. The C6 Z06 is still in production.
