C5 Z06 Corvette Overview
The C5 Z06 stormed onto the scene in 2001. With its 385HP LS1 based LS6 engine, the Z06 was a hardtop model featuring a 6-speed manual transmission with revised ratios. The Z06 also featured a titanium exhaust – the first titanium exhaust used for a mass production vehicle.
In 2002, the C5 Z06’s engine output increased from 385 to 405 HP through removing two of the precats in the exhaust, improving induction, and adding high-lift camshafts.
In 2004, Chevy released a commemorative Z06 to honor the last year of the C5 and also to celebrate the success of the C5R racer. These special Z06s had features not available in the regular coupes and convertibles of that year. They included carbon fiber hoods, a special paint scheme, and a polished wheel finish.
The C5Z06 was produced from 2001 to 2004. Total production was 28,388.
